Here’s What to Do if Your Facebook Ads Keep Getting Rejected

So, you’ve set up an ad in Facebook Ads Manager, chosen your audience, set the duration of your campaign, specified your budget, and it’s all set to go! You just know the ad will resonate with your audience, and the estimated daily results look promising…

You periodically check up on the “Under Review” status to see if it’s been approved, but then to your surprise, you discover it’s been updated to a bright red “Rejected”!

What could’ve gone wrong? You’re not alone, and this happens to other business pages as well. Read on to find out what you can do about it.

Figure out why your ads are being rejected.

There could be a number of reasons why your ads are being rejected, many of which are easy fixes.

All ads must adhere to Facebook’s Advertising Policies. Some of the common reasons for ad rejection include prohibited content such as illegal products or services, discriminatory practices, tobacco and related products, drugs and drug-related products, third-party infringement, misinformation, sensational content, and much more.

Your first reaction might be, “Wait, my ad doesn’t break any of those rules!” But take a closer look…

Start out by assessing your ad for some of the more obvious reasons why it might’ve been rejected. Do you unintentionally utilize diction that discriminates or encourages discrimination against people based on race, ethnicity, religion, age, family status, or other personal attributes? Does your ad portray electronic cigarettes or other products that simulate smoking?

Let’s take a look at one of the more ambiguous reasons – sensational content – which means that your ads cannot depict shocking, inflammatory, or excessively violent content. According to Facebook, this includes ads that represent graphic details of an ongoing medical procedure, details of suffering, details of an accident or crime, and more. Assess your ad to determine if it contains sensational content that may be the cause for rejection.

Steps to take if your ad is disapproved.

You can edit your ad so that it meets Facebook’s Advertising Policies. If your ad was rejected, keep a look out for an email from Facebook with details that explain why. Using this provided information, you can edit your ad to ensure it’s compliant with Facebook’s policies. Once you’ve saved your edited changes, your ad will get resubmitted for another review.

Think it was a mistake that your ad was rejected? This can happen. You can appeal the decision in Account Quality.
