How Will the Apple iOS 14 Release Affect My Facebook Ads & Reporting?

The Apple iOS 14 release can affect your Facebook ads and reporting…

Changes with the iOS 14 have been announced that’ll impact how conversion events from tools like the Facebook pixel are received and processed.

According to Facebook, “Apple will begin to require that apps in the App Store that engage in what Apple defines as ‘tracking’ to show a prompt to iOS 14 users, in accordance with their AppTrackingTransparency framework. Apple’s policy will prohibit certain data collection and sharing unless people opt into tracking on iOS 14 devices via the prompt.”

Who will be affected?

Businesses that market themselves on mobile apps and those who optimize, target, and report on web conversion events from any of Facebook’s business tools will be affected.

As per Facebook, “As more people opt out of tracking on iOS 14 devices, ads personalization and performance reporting will be limited for both app and web conversion events.”

What limitations will marketers face?

1. Ad Creation Limitations

You can use your existing ad accounts to advertise to iOS 14 users, but you’ll have to create separate iOS 14 app install campaigns.

2. New Delivery Statuses

Facebook introduced new delivery statuses that apply exclusively to iOS app campaigns.

3. Reporting Limitations

Businesses will be limited in their ability to measure the performance of iOS 14 app install campaigns on Facebook.

4. Targeting Limitations

The statistics regarding how many people opted out of tracking is fluid – as more people begin to opt out of tracking on iOS devices, the size of your app activity Custom Audiences may decrease.

5. Dynamic Ads Limitations

The size of your retargeting audiences may decrease as more and more devices update to iOS 14.

How can you prep your Business Manager account?

First off, don’t fall for any scammers claiming to be field experts who can sell brand new iOS-proof audience targeting techniques for a fee.

If you would like to continue to deliver and measure the performance of your campaigns, note that Facebook’s Aggregated Event Measurement allows for measurement of web events from iOS devices…

See the “Actions you can take to prepare” section of Facebook’s Business Help Center update for a detailed step-by-step guide on how you can prep.
